“Things will be hard, especially in the beginning, but it will all be ok.”
What do you do and what led you to this career?
I am portrait, fashion, and documentary photographer. I currently focus on plus/curve/size inclusive fashion, celebrity portraiture, and advertising. I started my career as a photojournalist, then moving towards celebrity work before arriving where I am now.
What is the name and age of your kids?
I have two boys, Matthew (5) and Hunter (3).
What is the most rewarding aspect of being a father?
Watching my sons grow and learn new things. Seeing them figure out how to do things on their own, however small the task, is so amazing.
And what is the most challenging?
Clearing my mind and just being all-in when I am with them. With work and life there are so many distractions and it can be hard to completely present.
What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?
Continuing to be lucky enough to be a working photographer.
What is your best advice for someone new to your industry?
To figure out the kind of imagery you want to create and the stories you want to tell because that is what will separate you from everyone else.
What is your best advice for a new dad?
That things will be hard, especially in the beginning, but it will all be ok. Also, if you are raising children with a partner make sure that you continue to engage and cultivate that relationship because it is just as important as the one with your child.
What is your current favorite activity with your kids?
I love being in the kitchen and cooking and then eating with my boys.
