“Put your phone down and play with your kid.”
What do you do and what led you to this career?
I make premium shoe care products which are sold in retailers around the world. We currently have flagship stores in LA and London which serve as hubs for bringing like-minded people together, and of course you can drop your shoes off for service.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be my own boss. As I graduated college and landed my first real job, the desire to be an entrepreneur only intensified. I was on a mission to start my own business, but didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. Then one day in 2006, I realized there wasn’t a specialized shoe cleaner made for the sneaker enthusiast...The rest as they say is history.
What is the name and age of your son?
Noah Markk, 21 months.
What is the most rewarding aspect of being a father?
So far, the most rewarding aspect of being a father has been witnessing Noah develop into a little human being. He observes everything that I do, so he’s my little mini-me.
And what is the most challenging?
The most challenging part was the inconsistent sleep. Now it’s picking kid-friendly restaurants.
What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?
I’d say reaching our 10th year in business. It’s been a journey of highs and lows, but here we are, now in our 11th year. I continue to learn each day and honestly, becoming a father has taught me so much about myself - which in turn has helped me become a better leader.
What is your best advice for someone new to your industry?
Do your homework, believe in yourself, and go for it!
What is your best advice for a new dad?
Put your phone down and play with your kid.
What is your current favorite activity with your son?
Cooking and scooter rides.
